The lnd v0.13.3 beta has been out for a while, and we believe there are many good reasons to upgrade your node if you haven’t, but there’s one in particular: avoiding a dust attack.
How does it work? Prior to v0.13.3, a peer could freeze your funds in a channel using the “dust” parameter, which is peer-controlled, unchecked, and cannot be settled on-chain. By considering a high amount of sats as “dust” when a channel closes, the malicious peer can effectively render your money inaccessible.
What has improved? The upgrade allows you to enforce checks at channel open-time that the dust limit was set reasonably.
